Malaysia Moves Forward with Carey Island Port Klang Third Terminal Project

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that Malaysia will proceed with the development of the Third Terminal of Port Klang on Carey Island, a long-planned strategic project aimed at strengthening the nation’s economic capabilities and global position in the port and logistics sector.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting earlier in the day, confirming that both the Federal Government and the Selangor State Government have reached an agreement to expedite the project’s implementation.

He emphasised that the initiative, which has been under consideration for years, should not face further delays.

“This project must move forward so that its benefits can be enjoyed by the people and open up new economic opportunities,” he said.

Anwar directed all relevant agencies to act swiftly, ensuring that the terminal’s development becomes a model of national infrastructure delivery characterised by efficiency, organisation and integrity.

He also underscored the importance of balancing economic progress with social responsibility. The interests of the Orang Asli, local residents, fishermen and the surrounding ecosystem will be safeguarded throughout the development process.

“National development must go hand in hand with social justice and responsibility towards nature, because that is where the meaning of true and lasting progress lies,” he added.

The Carey Island terminal is expected to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global shipping and logistics industry, providing new opportunities for trade and investment while reinforcing the country’s role as a regional hub.
