Celebrating Women and Community: Coffee Talk & Service Session in Sekama

Kuching Community Unites for International Women’s Day and Public Services

Kuching, 8 March 2025 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, community leaders and residents gathered at Hao Shi Guang Kopitiam, Sekama for a Coffee Talk Session, hosted by MBKS Councillors Eric Tay Tze Kok and Cr Liew Leongyee. The event was not only a celebration of women but also an opportunity for the public to voice concerns and receive assistance on local issues.

Honouring Women with Roses and Respect

International Women’s Day is a global occasion that highlights the struggles and achievements of women in pursuing peace, equality, and progress. To mark this important day, roses were distributed to women as a symbol of appreciation and respect. The warm and lively gathering saw hundreds of participants, reflecting society’s recognition of the contributions of women in various fields.

Mobile Service Counter: Bringing Help to the Community

Apart from celebrating women, the event also aimed to serve the people directly. A mobile service counter was set up to assist residents with:

SCHB applications
Kenyalang Gold Card information
Local issue consultations

The initiative showcased the people-first governance approach of the local leaders, ensuring that concerns were addressed promptly and efficiently.

Appreciation for the Community and Volunteers

The event was made possible with the support of Penghulu Annkee Giam, Penghulu Alex Pui Chow Hin, Kapitan Bong Ngim Sin, Kapitan Dato Philip Hii, Kapitan Kui Hua Kueh, Kapitan Tony Wee, and the SUPP Team members. Their commitment to serving the community was recognized with gratitude.

The International Women’s Day celebration and Coffee Talk Session in Sekama served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of gender equality, active community involvement, and people-centric governance.
