RM1.1 Million Worth of EV Teaching Aids Donated to CENTEXS for TVET Enhancement

IPOH – The Sarawak Centre of Technology Excellence (CENTEXS) has been gifted teaching aids valued at RM1,107,851.10 from Beifang International Education, China, in a ceremony held at the TVET@KKDW 2025 Expo at the Ipoh Convention Centre in Perak.

The handover was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The donation was formally handed over by Lili Han, Director of Business (Global) at Beifang, to CENTEXS Chief Executive Officer Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman.

The package comprises specialised teaching and learning tools tailored for electric vehicle (EV) technology training.

These materials will be distributed across CENTEXS campuses in Sarawak, enhancing the institution’s capacity to deliver up-to-date technical training in line with global trends.

Dato Syeed described the donation as reflecting confidence in the TVET institutions of Borneo and recognition of CENTEXS’ contributions

“This contribution is not just a teaching aid, but a symbol of trust in the potential of Malaysian youth,” he said.

He added that the donation would strengthen high-impact training modules to ensure that CENTEXS graduates remain aligned with industry demands.

He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) and to Beifang for their support and acknowledgement.

Furthermore, he noted that the partnership aligns with CENTEXS’ ambition to transform Sarawak into a hub for TVET and innovation in Borneo, and to bolster the expertise of teaching staff and the reach of modern automotive technologies.

Other recipients of the EV teaching aids within KKDW’s network include ILKA and ILKS institutions in Peninsular Malaysia, such as MARA, GIATMARA in Kuala Lumpur, PERDA-TECH in Penang, KEDA College in Kedah, and the National Youth Higher Skills Institute (IKBN) in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

Beifang, known as a global player in TVET initiatives, has long emphasised bridging industry and education, and has experience in developing vocational training infrastructure and equipment. Its role in this collaboration underlines growing Malaysia–China cooperation in technical education.

At the same expo, CENTEXS and its commercial arm showcased initiatives including Digital TVET, Green TVET, and techno-entrepreneur development programmes.

These align with Malaysia’s MADANI agenda and the Sarawak government’s goal to build a globally competitive local workforce.

CENTEXS, already recognised in regional circles, including receiving the Best Industry-Based Training Institution award at the Malaysian Education and TVET Awards 2024, is optimistic that sustained support from KKDW, the Sarawak government, and international partners like Beifang will drive further progress. (CENTEXS was recognised in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly documents for that award.)

With this reinforcement, the centre hopes to widen educational access and intensify the development of highly skilled professionals in Sarawak and across Borneo.
