KUCHING – His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Governor of Sarawak, together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from His Excellency Mr. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, at the official residence in Petra Jaya.
The meeting was attended by senior Chinese diplomats, including H.E. Mr. Xing Weiping, Consul General of China in Kuching; Mr. Ma Cuihong and Mr. Lin Shiguang, Minister-Counsellors at the Embassy of China in Malaysia; Mr. Zhao Chantao, Counsellor; Mrs. Zeng Haoyao, Second Secretary at the Consulate General in Kuching; and Mr. Yan Zihao, Second Secretary at the Embassy in Malaysia.
Also, present was Dato’ Fenny Nuli, Director of the Sarawak Regional Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
Discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations, with emphasis on China’s role as a major trading partner and investor in Sarawak.
Both sides explored opportunities in the Green Economy and Renewable Energy, including hydrogen, hydroelectricity, and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies. These initiatives align with Sarawak’s ambition to become a sustainable energy hub in the region.
The talks also highlighted the importance of expanding trade relations and attracting more Chinese companies to invest in Sarawak’s strategic sectors such as high-tech manufacturing, petrochemicals, and the modern food industry.
Infrastructure development was another key agenda item, with potential cooperation in road, bridge, and port construction using Chinese expertise.
In addition, both parties discussed collaboration in research and technology, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and STEM fields, involving partnerships between higher education institutions in Sarawak and China.
The presence of the high-level delegation underscored China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Malaysia, with Sarawak recognised as a strategic gateway to the Borneo region.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ouyang extended an invitation to Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan to pay an official visit to China.
The Governor expressed optimism that the friendship and cooperation between Sarawak and China would continue to flourish, bringing mutual benefits in trade, education, and technological advancement.
