KUCHING (Dec 18): In a heartwarming Christmas miracle, 64-year-old Catherine William John from Miri has finally reconnected with her son, Michael Daniel Liam, after nearly six years of separation and unanswered questions. The emotional reunion came just hours after her story was published in thesundaypost, capturing the attention of a concerned public.
“It’s the best Christmas present ever,” Catherine said through tears of joy. “Hearing Michael’s voice again has brought me immense relief. He’s been sending me photos, and we’ve spoken on the phone. I couldn’t hold back my emotions; I cried uncontrollably.”
Catherine expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her during her search, especially Michael’s former colleague, Zim Dana, whose timely actions were instrumental in reuniting the family.
“I want to thank everyone for their concern and prayers. A special thanks to Zim for his efforts. I wish everyone good health and happiness,” Catherine added.
Michael, now living in Peninsular Malaysia, has asked for privacy regarding his current circumstances but has reassured his family of his well-being.
Zim, who worked with Michael in Papua New Guinea, recalled how he pieced the puzzle together after reading the article in thesundaypost.
“At first, I wasn’t sure if it was him. I tried reaching out using an old number from 2020, but it wasn’t active. Luckily, I remembered Michael’s resume from that time and found another number,” Zim shared.
After a day of waiting, Zim received a call from Michael, confirming his identity. “It was such a relief to hear his voice. I immediately informed his family,” Zim said.
For Catherine, the reunion has brought a sense of closure. “I never gave up on him. Now, I can finally sleep knowing he’s okay,” she said, her voice filled with relief and joy.
