An unexpected and amusing incident unfolded at the Keruing Cafe in RDC Sepilok as a clever orangutan made a surprise appearance, leaving visitors and staff astonished.
Amidst scorching temperatures, an orangutan from the nearby Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre decided to beat the heat in a rather unconventional way. Instead of lounging in the shade, this intelligent primate took matters into its own hands, quite literally.
In a viral video that has been circulating on social media, the orangutan can be seen skillfully ‘raiding’ the cafe’s fridge for refreshing beverages. With a nonchalant demeanor, it selects its desired drink before leisurely departing, leaving behind an amused audience.
Sabah Forest Department’s deputy conservator, Arthur Chung, shed light on the incident, stating, “Due to the extremely hot weather today, an unexpected guest dropped by at the Keruing Cafe in RDC Sepilok, and helped himself selectively with whatever was found in the fridge and left without paying!” The incident was captured on camera by a staff member of the Rainforest Discovery Centre, adding to the hilarity and charm of the moment.
Chung further elaborated that while this wasn’t the first time an orangutan had ventured into the cafe, it was the first instance of one raiding the fridge. The incident highlights the ingenuity and adaptability of these remarkable creatures in coping with their surroundings.
