Countdown 2026 in Kuching Celebrates Unity and Sarawak’s Progress

KUCHING – The Countdown 2026 celebration, a themed Fiesta, drew thousands of Sarawakians to the Kuching Waterfront, marking the arrival of the new year with a vibrant showcase of unity, creativity, and cultural diversity.

The event was officiated by Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, who also serves as Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak.

He emphasised that the celebration was more than a festive occasion, describing it as a reflection of Sarawak’s enduring spirit of harmony and shared values.

According to him, the Fiesta theme blended art, music, technology, and youth innovation, symbolising Sarawak’s aspirations as it moves towards 2030.

“A variety of fresh and dynamic programmes were featured, including performances by local bands, creative dance presentations, as well as local and international artistes who enlivened the celebration this evening,” he said.

The night’s entertainment featured a line-up of well-known performers, including popular group KRU, celebrated singer Dayang Nurfaizah, Naqiu, Jatt Ali, and international star Judika, who captivated the crowd with energetic performances.

In his address, Abdul Karim expressed gratitude for Sarawak’s achievements under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

He highlighted progress in infrastructure development, the advancement of the green economy, the strengthening of tourism, and investments in education for the younger generation.

“These efforts clearly demonstrate that Sarawak is moving forward in a structured and holistic manner, founded on strong unity between leaders and the people,” he noted.

As the state enters 2026, Abdul Karim voiced optimism that Sarawak will continue to thrive, building a peaceful and prosperous society while elevating its standing regionally and globally.

He urged Sarawakians to embrace the new year with gratitude, renewed confidence, and hope for a brighter future.

The Countdown 2026 celebration at the Kuching Waterfront not only marked the transition into a new year but also reinforced Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and unity, setting the tone for the state’s journey ahead.
