Couple Escapes Fiery Car Blaze at Miri Traffic Lights

MIRI, 22 April – A married couple had a narrow escape after their car suddenly caught fire while they were waiting at a traffic light on Jalan Airport here this evening.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, the fire incident was reported at 6.22 pm. Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station were immediately sent to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our team found the Perodua Kancil already 80 percent destroyed by flames,” the spokesperson said. “The fire broke out in the middle of the road and spread quickly.”

Luckily, members of the public acted fast and managed to help the couple out of the burning car before the fire department arrived. Both victims were reported to be in safe condition and did not suffer any injuries.

The fire department worked quickly to extinguish the blaze and secure the area. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The estimated losses have not been determined.

This incident has raised concerns about vehicle fire safety, especially with older car models that may be more prone to technical issues. The public is advised to regularly check their vehicles and avoid ignoring warning signs such as smoke or burning smells.

The bravery and quick action of bystanders helped prevent what could have been a tragic incident. JBPM praised the public’s quick response and reminded drivers to always stay alert and calm during emergencies.
