Cross-Border Tourism Strengthens Limbang’s Economy and Cultural Appeal

LIMBANG – Limbang’s unique position bordering Brunei continues to drive cross-border tourism, providing a significant boost to the district’s economy.

The influx of visitors from neighbouring countries has created new opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs, while strengthening Limbang’s reputation as a vibrant destination.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, officiated the Limbang Viral Expo at the Civic Hall on Saturday, where he highlighted the importance of cultural and entrepreneurial events in attracting tourists.

He noted that festivals showcasing race, culture, creativity, and entertainment can serve as catalysts for sustained tourism growth.

“We are trying to make Limbang one of the tourist attractions. We will also hold festivals throughout the year to attract tourists,” he said, commending organisers for successfully drawing visitors from both within Sarawak and across the border in Brunei.

The four-day expo, held from 11 to 14 December, featured 76 local traders and foreign entrepreneurs, offering viral products, local brands, and creative showcases.

The event not only promoted Limbang’s commercial potential but also provided a platform for vendors to expand their reach.

Guest artists added to the attraction, drawing crowds eager to experience both cultural and entertainment elements.

Dr Abdul Rahman emphasised that such initiatives encourage creativity and entrepreneurship while strengthening community engagement.

He added that Limbang’s future prospects will be further enhanced once the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road is completed, opening up greater connectivity and economic opportunities in northern Sarawak.

The expo also reflected strong institutional support, with notable figures in attendance including Limbang District Council Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Expo Viral, Sufian Mohat, Founder of De Juwita Holdings Sdn. Bhd, Linda Juwita Jumardi, Deputy Secretary of the Limbang District Council, Diana Esa, and Limbang District Police Chief, SUPT Parom Niot.

The success of the expo underscores Limbang’s growing role as a hub for cross-border tourism and trade.

With strategic planning and infrastructure development, the district is poised to strengthen its economy while promoting Sarawak’s diverse cultural heritage to international audiences.
