MIRI – Curtin University Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering rural education by donating 30 computer units to SK Kelapa Sawit No. 3, a rural school in Sarawak, in a move that aims to narrow the digital divide and foster inclusive learning opportunities.

At the handover ceremony held at the university’s campus on Tuesday, Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dr. Vincent Lee Chieng Chen, emphasised that the initiative reflects the university’s vision to uplift underserved communities through education.

“This initiative goes beyond merely donating hardware — it unlocks access to digital tools, enhances educational quality, and supports the creation of a more inclusive future,” he said.

Professor Lee also highlighted that many rural schools in Sarawak face significant resource limitations, which often constrain students from realising their full potential, despite their natural talents and aspirations.

SK Kelapa Sawit No. 3 headmaster Mawar Sibli expressed deep appreciation for the contribution, describing the donation as a turning point in the students’ educational journey.

“These computers have transformed the learning landscape for our students. They now have access to crucial digital tools, particularly in science, technology, and digital literacy — all essential skills in today’s world,” he said.

This initiative is part of Curtin Malaysia’s broader mission as a Sarawak Government-owned institution to strengthen the capacity of local communities, expand equitable access to education, and nurture future generations of leaders and innovators in the region.
