Dato Sri Huang Strengthens Ties with Sarikei Longhouse Residents

SARIKEI – In the spirit of the upcoming festive season, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, visited longhouse residents across Sarikei to strengthen community ties and deliver calendars and Christmas greeting cards.

The programme, organised through his Service Centre, was aimed at reaching out to the local community, listening to their needs and reinforcing connections at the grassroots level.

As both Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), Dato Sri Huang emphasised that such initiatives are part of his ongoing commitment to community development.

Led by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, the delegation toured several longhouses including Rumah Musit Merun, Rumah Jessica Patrick, Rumah Gundak Ahlin, Rumah Limbang Maleng, Rumah Clement Asuh, Rumah Bajut Pak, Rumah Semanggang Anak Migih, Rumah Ubok Anak Sejang, and Rumah Juing Anak Embuyang.

Each visit was warmly received by residents, who expressed appreciation for the consistent efforts of the Repok Service Centre in safeguarding community welfare.

Dato Sri Huang highlighted that these engagements are not one-off events but will continue periodically to ensure communication between leaders and residents remains strong.

“Programmes like this are important to maintain close ties with the people and to ensure their well-being is always prioritised,” he said.

Residents noted that the visits provided reassurance that their concerns are being heard, particularly ahead of festive occasions when community support is most valued.

The distribution of calendars and greeting cards symbolised goodwill and strengthened the festive spirit among the longhouse communities.

The initiative reflects Dato Sri Huang’s broader agenda of community development and welfare enhancement, ensuring that rural residents in Repok remain connected to their elected representatives.

His consistent presence on the ground underscores a leadership style focused on inclusivity, accessibility and care for the people.
