DARO – A simple yet powerful message from his late mother continues to guide Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and Semop State Assemblyman (ADUN). He shared that her advice “don’t lie, don’t steal, don’t criticise your livelihood and don’t like to complain” remains a principle he upholds in both personal and public life.
Speaking at the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Penibong, Pulau Bruit, Datuk Abdullah said the values of honesty, gratitude, and resilience embedded in his mother’s words should serve as a moral compass for today’s younger generation.
He emphasised that such teachings, though simple, form the foundation of good character and responsible citizenship.
“The message is very meaningful and should be used as a guide by today’s young generation,” he told the audience, which included students, parents, and community leaders.
The ceremony celebrated the achievement of 10 SK Penibong students who successfully completed the recitation of the Al-Quran.
The event was described as not only a recognition of their accomplishment but also a platform to strengthen ties between the school, parents, and the local community, while nurturing a love for the Quran and Islamic values among children.
During his speech, Datuk Abdullah also expressed disappointment over the long-delayed upgrading project for SK Penibong, which has been left incomplete for years. He assured the community that he would raise the matter again with the relevant ministry to ensure the school receives the facilities it deserves.
The event highlighted the importance of education and religious learning in shaping the younger generation. Datuk Abdullah noted that instilling discipline, moral values, and spiritual knowledge is essential in preparing students to contribute positively to society.
Also present at the ceremony were Headmaster Mohd. Musa Morshidi, Deputy District Education Officer Daro Ismail Majelis, and Head of the Jahari Masni Tribe, who joined in celebrating the students’ milestone.
The gathering reflected the community’s shared commitment to education, faith, and cultural values, reinforcing the role of schools as centres of both academic and moral development.
