KUCHING – The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) continues in its efforts to enhance the community engagement as it co-organised a refinement session for the 2026 Friendly Neighbourhood Activity Calendar (KJM) on Jan 31.
The gathering was intended to review and upscale the calendar of activities to enable residents to benefit from more organized, focused and impactful programmes in 2026. Organisers stressed that it’s about much more than putting on events, the idea is to develop closer links between neighbours and promote sustainable urban lifestyles.
The refinement focused specifically on issues that had been addressed last year. By learning from these challenges, DBKU and the KJM committee aspire not to repeat past mistakes but rather to implement practical, inclusive community-focused activities.
Based on a press release issued by DBKU, the calendar will feature programmes that are expected to involve participation from residents, which will include cultural aspects as well as recreational programmes and health and environmental activities. The aim is to provide all-purpose mix of events that contribute to well-being, inclusivity and social harmony.
It also fits with the greater urban development aspirations of DBKU. Early this month, the council launched its 2026 Events Calendar, listing flagship events like a broadening of the popular Kuching Car Free Morning.
This initiative is now held on rotation between Petra Jaya and central Kuching, for more families can take advantage of the traffic free street to jog or cycle. The wider calendar will host more than 30 events, including international standard programmes forecast to draw overseas entrants.
Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, deputy minister of Premier’s Department, recently explained that although being packed with a series of traditional and new programmes, DBKU’s celebration calendar 2026 is crafted to maintain the harmony between heritage and modern tradition. He added that the addition of new events would continue to attract local and international visitors, making Kuching a vibrant city.
The KJM calendar refinement session supports this broader effort by ensuring that the activities upon which priorities were created from a neighbourhood perspective are rooted in community-level realities.
DBKU further reiterated that the collaboration with local panels and residents is vital to develop a vision for an inclusive, safe and liveable city.
With this project drawing lessons learned and in conjunction with greater city initiatives, the 2026 Friendly Neighbourhood Activity Calendar to be formulated will likely become a roadmap of better community living and sustainable urbanisation tasting revitalisation leading to anticipated improvements in Kuching.
