New DBKU Leaders Take Oath, YAB Premier Witnesses Ceremony

KUCHING, 26 May 2025 – A new chapter begins for the Kuching North City Council (DBKU) as ten new council members were officially sworn in for the 2025–2028 term during a ceremony held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building in Petra Jaya this morning.

The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, highlighting the importance of the council’s role in shaping the future of Kuching.

Among the newly appointed members were high-ranking state officials such as State Attorney General, Yang Arif Dato Sri Saferi bin Ali; State Finance Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; and Deputy State Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel. Other appointees include Director of Sarawak Public Works Department, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Cassidy Morris, and Director of Sarawak Land and Survey Department, Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.

These appointments mark the start of a new leadership era for DBKU, with a strong focus on more efficient city management, better urban development plans, and improvements to public facilities. The new leadership is also expected to work on balancing physical development with the social needs of the people, in line with the state government’s vision for a more liveable and modern Kuching.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak State Secretary, YB Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar Bin Marzuki; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi; and Kuching North Mayor, YBhg. Dato Haji Hilmy Haji Othman.

This new term brings hope for improved services, smarter infrastructure planning, and more inclusive community development under DBKU. – Sarawakku
