KUCHING – North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a sustainable smart city by organising the Clinic Session for Level 2 Rating: Developing Smart City.
The event was held at the Hock Lee Hotel and served as a platform to evaluate progress and strengthen documentation for ongoing smart city initiatives.
The session was attended by 15 representatives from various agencies and departments, reflecting a collective effort to ensure that Kuching’s transformation into a smart city is holistic and impactful.
The programme provided a comprehensive review of DBKU’s applications and strategies, aligning with the vision of creating an inclusive, resilient, and future-orientated city.
DBKU Director Encik Ramzi bin Abdillah highlighted the importance of collaboration in accelerating smart city development. He stressed that an integrated approach involving multiple stakeholders is essential to achieving meaningful progress.
PLAN Malaysia also played a key role in the session, with Puan Hajjah Syarifah Nuraida binti Tengku Mohd Apandi, Head of the PLAN-BP Unit, delivering a detailed presentation on the Malaysian Smart City Rating criteria.
Her briefing outlined the requirements for achieving Level 2 recognition and emphasised areas for improvement, including digital governance, service delivery efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
The clinic session underscored DBKU’s determination to meet every rating requirement, demonstrating readiness to position Kuching as a leader in smart city development.
By focusing on strategic enhancements, the city aims to accelerate its achievement of the Malaysian Smart City Rating Level 2: Developing Smart City in 2026.
Officials noted that the initiative is not only about securing recognition but also about transforming city services to be more efficient, innovative, and people-centred.
The agenda aligns closely with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises balanced growth across economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
Through this effort, DBKU hopes to strengthen Kuching’s standing as a model smart city in Malaysia, ensuring that the benefits of sustainable urban development can be enjoyed by current and future generations.
