Debak Workshop Break-In: Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Suspect

BETONG – Swift action by Betong police has led to the arrest of a local man suspected of breaking into a car workshop equipment storage facility in Debak late last month.

Betong District Police Chief, DSP Rejali Angong, said the incident took place on July 29 at around 11.11 am when a mechanic discovered his storage area had been broken into. The victim reportedly suffered losses amounting to approximately RM2,000, which included various workshop tools and vehicle components.

Following a police investigation, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division at Betong District Police Headquarters (IPD) successfully detained a 23-year-old suspect in the Lalang area of Debak on August 7, at around 11.40 am.

“Checks revealed the suspect had two prior criminal records involving drug abuse and property crime. We also recovered a hydraulic vehicle jack reported missing by the complainant,” Rejali said.

The suspect has been remanded for four days, until August 12, to assist in investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code. The section carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison, with the possibility of a fine or whipping for repeat offenders.

Urine tests conducted on the suspect returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine use.

Rejali urged members of the public to immediately report any suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station to help curb crime in the district.

“The community’s cooperation is crucial in ensuring a safe environment for everyone,” he stressed.
