Decomposed Body Found in Jalan Setia Raja Ditch, Man Detained for Probe

KUCHING (Dec 15): The Magistrates’ Court here has ordered the detention of a 23-year-old man for seven days to assist in the investigation of a decomposed body discovered in a ditch along Jalan Setia Raja late Saturday. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan approved the police’s request for detention until Dec 22 under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The body, found in a severely decomposed state, led to the man’s arrest on the same day as its discovery. Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the case in a statement issued earlier today.

“The process of identifying the body and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to facilitate investigations,” said Mohd Farhan.

He also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and speculation, as it could disrupt the ongoing probe. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with the police by providing any relevant details regarding the incident.

Those with information can contact the Kuching District police headquarters control centre at 082-244 444 or reach out to the investigating officer, ASP Tan Kian Kok, at 010-566 1576.

The grim discovery has sparked concerns among residents of Jalan Setia Raja, with many hoping for swift justice and answers about the circumstances leading to the incident.

Police investigations are still underway, and further updates are expected in the coming days as authorities piece together evidence and await post-mortem results.
