KUCHING – The first day of the PANDei Digital Literacy Workshop 2026 took place on 17 April at DCC Semariang Batu, marking the start of a programme designed to strengthen digital skills among participants.
The event began with registration, followed by an information literacy briefing and an introduction to the Sarawak State Library’s online services.
Attendees were guided on how to use platforms such as OPAC and PANDei e-Learning, which serve as essential tools for effective information retrieval.
A key highlight of the morning was the cybersecurity session, which addressed issues surrounding responsible social media use.
The discussion centred on the theme “Are You and Me Safe or Not?”, encouraging participants to reflect on their online behaviour.
Practical activities included creating secure passwords, a skill increasingly vital in today’s digital environment.
Later in the day, participants engaged in an information search exercise using platforms such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google.
The activity demonstrated how digital tools can support creative thinking, particularly in generating branding ideas and promotional content for businesses.
The afternoon session shifted focus to creative content production. Using Canva, participants explored digital design techniques to produce engaging images and promotional materials.
These skills were then applied in group activities, where participants collaborated to develop innovative ideas for promoting their own enterprises.
The workshop, organised by the Sarawak State Library, aims to equip participants with practical knowledge in digital literacy, cyber safety, and creative content development. By combining theoretical guidance with hands-on activities, the programme seeks to empower individuals to navigate the digital landscape more effectively.
Digital literacy has become increasingly important in Sarawak’s development agenda, with initiatives such as PANDei designed to ensure communities are not left behind in the digital age.
The workshop reflects ongoing efforts to promote safe, informed, and creative use of technology, aligning with broader goals of enhancing education and economic participation.
Day one concluded with participants gaining exposure to a wide range of digital tools and practices, setting the stage for further sessions in the coming days.
The workshop is expected to continue building skills that support both personal growth and community advancement in Sarawak’s digital future.
