KUCHING – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof officiated the opening of the new office of Gabungan Jurutera Perunding Bumiputera Sarawak (GJPBS) on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the role of Bumiputera consulting engineers in Sarawak’s infrastructure development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Datuk Amar Fadillah highlighted the importance of GJPBS in providing a professional framework for its members while contributing to the growth of local human capital.
He noted that the organisation plays a strategic role in supporting the state’s development agenda by offering expertise across multiple engineering disciplines.
“The opening of this office marks another important milestone in strengthening the role of Bumiputera consulting engineers in the state’s infrastructure development,” he said.
The event was attended by GJPBS Chairman Ir. Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie, alongside committee members who accompanied the Deputy Prime Minister during the official launch.
GJPBS, which brings together Bumiputera engineering consultancy firms specialising in civil, mechanical and other engineering fields, has steadily expanded its presence.
The organisation has been actively involved in leading projects and delivering professional services that align with Sarawak’s infrastructure and development needs.
In addition to officiating the new office, Datuk Amar Fadillah expressed his support for plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Consulting Engineers.
The proposed centre, aimed at enhancing professional standards and fostering innovation, is currently in the site identification stage in Samarahan. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, subject to approvals and design processes.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the centre would serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, training and collaboration, further strengthening Sarawak’s engineering capabilities and supporting the state’s long-term development goals.
The opening of the GJPBS office and the planned Centre of Excellence reflect the government’s commitment to empowering Bumiputera professionals, ensuring they play a central role in shaping Sarawak’s future infrastructure landscape.
