Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian Joins Chinese New Year Festivities in Sri Aman

SRI AMAN – The Chinese New Year celebration in Sri Aman was marked with vibrant festivities as Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian visited the residence of Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng, the Chinese community leader of Sri Aman.

Dr Sim, who also serves as the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, officiated the reception with traditional lion and dragon performances presented by the Che Chuan Khor Sri Aman Behaviour Promotion Association.

As part of the ceremony, Dr Sim placed his fingerprints on a lion statue and participated in a fire-lighting ritual, symbolising prayers for peace and renewed faith for the year ahead.

Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng welcomed the Deputy Premier’s presence, noting that the visit reinforced ties between community elders and residents. He described the occasion as a meaningful gesture of unity that continues to thrive in Sri Aman.

The event highlighted the importance of cultural traditions in fostering harmony and inclusivity within Sarawak’s diverse society. Community leaders emphasised that such celebrations not only preserve heritage but also strengthen bonds across different groups.

Also in attendance was Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, who joined the gathering alongside local leaders and residents.

The lively celebration reflected the enduring spirit of Chinese New Year in Sarawak, where cultural practices are embraced as part of the state’s broader commitment to unity and community development.
