KLANG – A routine Sunday morning turned tragic when a motorcyclist lost his life after being hit by a car driven by a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs along Jalan Raya Barat here.
The incident occurred at about 11.40am and involved a motorcycle and two cars. South Klang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, said initial investigations revealed that a Honda City driven by a local man in his 20s was travelling from Jalan Raya Barat towards Bandar Klang at a dangerous speed.
According to police, the driver is believed to have overtaken several vehicles before entering the opposite lane. His reckless action resulted in a head-on collision with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
“The impact caused the motorcyclist, a local man in his 30s, to be thrown onto a Perodua Myvi,” Lim said in a statement on Sunday.
The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by motorcyclists, who remain among the most vulnerable road users in the country.
Further investigations revealed that the driver of the Honda City tested positive for both alcohol and drugs following a screening test. Police have detained the suspect to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence causing death. It is also being probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Lim urged members of the public who witnessed the incident or have relevant information to come forward to assist police in their investigation by contacting the investigating officer.
He stressed that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a serious offence that endangers not only the driver but also other innocent road users.
“This tragic incident should serve as a stern reminder. Road users must obey traffic laws, drive prudently and always consider the safety of others,” he said.
The loss of another life due to irresponsible driving is a heavy price to pay. Authorities continue to remind motorists that the law is clear and enforcement will be firm against those who gamble with lives on the road.
