Durin Bridge Flooded in Sibu, JKR Sarawak on High Alert

SIBU, March 21 – The areas around Durin Bridge in Sibu are currently experiencing severe flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Batang Rajang River. This situation has made the affected roads only accessible to heavy vehicles, while small and light vehicles are unable to pass.

The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) is closely monitoring the situation. In response to the flood, the Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has urged immediate action to ensure public safety.

“As a precautionary measure, I request that JKR Sarawak take immediate action to monitor the flood situation affecting the roads, especially on the Pan Borneo Highway,” Nanta said in a Facebook post.

According to a notice from JKR Sarawak, as of 8 AM today, roads near Durin Bridge remain impassable for small and light vehicles due to the high water levels. In an effort to alert road users, JKR Sarawak has placed safety notices around the flooded areas.

Authorities are urging road users to remain cautious and follow all safety guidelines. “I urge all road users to be more vigilant with the current situation and always comply with the authorities’ instructions for everyone’s safety,” Nanta added.

Motorists planning to travel through the affected areas are advised to check for updates and seek alternative routes if necessary. Continuous monitoring by JKR Sarawak and relevant authorities will ensure that timely actions are taken to address the flood situation.
