Early Morning Fire Destroys Car and Damages Guardhouse in Sibu

Early Morning Fire Destroys Car and Damages Guardhouse in Sibu

SIBU, 6 April – A store guard’s car was completely destroyed in an early morning fire at Lorong Lanang 9 here today. The incident, which also partially damaged the nearby guardhouse, sparked concern among local residents.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO) said they received a distress call at 2.23am, prompting immediate action.

According to a spokesperson, a team of eight firefighters from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engine and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.

“Upon arrival, the Operations Commander confirmed that a parked vehicle belonging to a store guard was fully engulfed in flames and was 100% destroyed,” the department said in a statement.

The flames also spread to the adjacent guardhouse, which suffered 30% damage before the fire was brought under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by 3.20am, after nearly an hour of battling the flames.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire or the total value of losses. Investigations are ongoing.

Residents in the area were shocked by the sudden blaze, and some reported hearing loud crackling sounds before noticing the fire. Several nearby homes were spared thanks to the swift response of the firefighting team.

This incident raises questions about fire safety measures in residential and commercial zones, especially where security personnel are stationed.

The community is advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities that may help in the investigation.
