Edwin Banta Urges Transparent Management of MRP Funds in Rural Areas

SELANGAU – Selangau Member of Parliament Edwin Banta has emphasised the importance of integrity and transparency in managing Rural Small Project (MRP) allocations to ensure effective development in rural areas.

Speaking at the “Leaders’ Meeting with the People” held at Rumah Undi, Ulu Oya on Monday, Edwin called on every Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to uphold accountability when implementing MRP-funded projects, particularly in the Tamin State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area.

“Each allocation approved must be used exactly as proposed in the original application. After project completion, a full expenditure report must be submitted to the Service Centre and included in the JKKK’s annual activity report,” he stated.

He also stressed that community leaders must embody the values of transparency, trust, and accountability in managing public funds, and warned against any form of misappropriation.

According to Edwin, proper fund management not only strengthens relationships between leadership and the local community but also enables leaders to directly understand and address the pressing needs of rural residents.

The event was attended by over 300 locals, including 16 Tuai Rumah from the surrounding areas, Councillor Henry Kanyan, and Penghulu Bansa Kuchau. The strong turnout underscored the community’s support for improved governance and responsible development.

Edwin reiterated that the government’s focus is not just about disbursing funds, but ensuring that those funds bring real benefits to the people. “We want development that is sustainable, transparent, and leaves no community behind,” he added.
