Elderly Driver Injured as Car Crashes into Tree Near SGH, Kuching

KUCHING: A 68-year-old man sustained injuries after the Perodua Kelisa he was driving skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi, near Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), earlier this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 10.35 am, alerting them to the accident. In response, a team from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arriving at the location three minutes later, our team discovered that the driver was trapped in the driver’s seat,” said a JBPM spokesperson in a statement today.

Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and used specialized Rescue Tool equipment to extract the victim from the vehicle. The extrication process was successfully completed at 10.45 am.

Following the rescue, the injured man was handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) personnel for further medical attention.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, but authorities urge motorists to exercise caution, especially on wet and slippery roads. The incident highlights the importance of road safety awareness, particularly for elderly drivers.
