LUNDU – An elderly man died at the scene while an elderly woman sustained head injuries following a collision involving a three-tonne lorry and a motorcycle along Jalan Pan Borneo near Kampung Sedemak, Lundu, on Friday, 9 October.
The Lundu District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call from a member of the public at 10.08am reporting the accident, according to the Civil Defence Force’s Lundu Sematan unit.
Emergency personnel responded to the incident and found the two elderly victims at the scene. The man was confirmed dead at the location, while the woman had sustained head injuries and required further medical attention.
The injured woman was transported to Lundu Hospital by an ambulance operated by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) for further treatment. No additional information about her condition was provided in the incident report.
The circumstances leading to the collision, including how the lorry and motorcycle came into contact, were not detailed in the information released by the responding agency.
Further details about the identities of those involved, the vehicles’ direction of travel and any subsequent investigation were also not available.
The incident highlights the risks faced by road users travelling along routes that connect settlements and communities in the Lundu area.
Collisions involving larger vehicles and motorcycles can have serious consequences, particularly for riders and passengers who have less physical protection in an impact.
Motorists are generally advised to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, remain alert to changing traffic conditions and exercise caution when approaching junctions, bends and areas near villages.
Motorcyclists should also ensure that they are visible to other road users and wear appropriate protective equipment.
However, the precise factors behind Friday’s collision have not been established, and no conclusion can be drawn about its cause based on the initial emergency report alone.
The Lundu Sematan Civil Defence Force expressed its condolences to the deceased man’s family and offered its sympathies to those affected by the incident.
The agency also reiterated its emergency contact number, 082-711292, for members of the public requiring assistance.
The response was reported by the Public Relations and Documentation Unit of APM Lundu Sematan, which issued the update on Friday.
Further information about the incident may become available if additional details are released by the relevant authorities.
