Elderly Woman, 82, Found Dead in Petra Jaya Drain, Case Ruled Sudden Death

KUCHING, 29 April — In a tragic incident, an 82-year-old woman was found dead in a drain outside a house at a village in Petra Jaya, Kuching, last Friday.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that police received a call about the discovery at 5.41pm.

“Based on the information, a team from Gita Police Station rushed to the location and confirmed that the body was that of a local woman, aged 82,” he said in a statement today.

Medical officers who arrived at the scene also confirmed that the elderly woman had passed away.

Following an initial investigation, police found no signs of criminal elements or foul play at the location. As such, the case has been officially classified as a sudden death.

The body of the deceased was later taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

ACP Alexson urged anyone who may have seen or known about the incident to step forward and share information with the police. Those with information are encouraged to contact Gita Police Station Chief ASP Syed Zainal Abidin at 019-5131156, Gita Police Station at 082-254417, or the nearest police station.

He also reminded the public not to make baseless speculations regarding the incident to respect the privacy and feelings of the victim’s family.

“This is a difficult time for the family. Please allow them to grieve without unnecessary rumours or speculation,” he added.

The incident has saddened the local community, many of whom expressed condolences and prayers for the woman’s family.

The police are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
