An elderly woman was found collapsed after the house she lived in caught fire in Kampung Sungai Kapur, Jalan Ulu Dusun Batu 28, here, at midnight last night.

In the incident at about 12:30 midnight, the 84-year-old victim was found collapsed inside the house.

Sandakan Rescue and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Severinus Sainkui, said he received an emergency call about the incident at 12:41 midnight.

He said, a total of 12 members and officers along with two machines were moved to the scene of the incident to carry out firefighting operations.

“Upon arrival, the fire brigade found that a non-permanent house was 100 percent on fire and extinguishing efforts were immediately carried out to prevent the fire from spreading.

“There was an elderly female victim who was found dead and handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a media statement, here, today.

According to him, the fire brigade carried out a final inspection to ensure the fire area was safe before the operation ended at 3:17 am.

“The fire brigade will carry out an investigation to find out the cause and amount of losses suffered by the victims,” he said.
