Elderly Woman Rescued by Bomba Amid Floods in Simpang Dijih, Sibu

SIBU (Feb 6): An elderly woman in poor health was safely evacuated by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) today following severe flooding in Simpang Dijih, along Jalan Sibu-Selangau.

According to a statement from Bomba, they received a distress call at 8.47am and quickly dispatched personnel from the Selangau fire station to provide assistance.

The 77-year-old woman was found trapped in her home, with rising floodwaters making the area impassable to vehicles. Bomba personnel carefully carried her on a stretcher through waist-deep floodwaters to reach a waiting Civil Defence Force (APM) ambulance.

She was then transported to the Selangau Health Clinic for medical treatment.

The flood situation in Simpang Dijih has raised concerns for residents, as heavy rains continue to cause water levels to rise. Authorities are urging those in flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow safety instructions.

Bomba remains on standby to provide assistance to affected communities and ensure their safety during this challenging time.

Residents are reminded to seek help immediately if faced with emergencies and to avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, which can be dangerous.
