KUCHING: Sarawak continues to strengthen its position in the green economy with a strong focus on youth upskilling in electric vehicle (EV) technology. On Monday, Senator Dato’ Ahmad Ibrahim officiated the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Programme and Youth Skills Training Observation, organised by Quick Skill Sdn Bhd at Euroauto Garage Sdn Bhd.
The technical training initiative targets the hybrid and electric automotive sectors, aligning with the global push for green energy and Malaysia’s commitment to lowering carbon emissions.
In his speech, Dato’ Ahmad stressed that EV-related skills are no longer a luxury, but a necessity in the modern job market—especially for Sarawak’s youth.
“We are not just producing mechanics, we are producing innovators,” he said. “These young people represent the skilled energy that will power Malaysia’s green industry forward.”
He also called on public and private sectors to work hand-in-hand to initiate more programmes like this to build high-quality local talent and reduce the country’s reliance on foreign workers.
As a committed voice in the State House, Dato’ Ahmad pledged support for technical training development policies, including pushing for incentives for companies that invest in youth skills training.
The event was attended by industry leaders, technical instructors, and youth trainees, who are currently gaining hands-on experience in EV and hybrid technology through a practical training module.
This programme is expected to serve as a model for impactful technical training across Sarawak and Borneo, supporting the state’s vision to expand high-skilled job opportunities while building a sustainable, green economy.
