The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the fire occurred on the first floor of the two-storey shoplot, which houses six rented rooms. One of the rooms was entirely engulfed, with the second room suffering minor damage of around five per cent.

“The fire broke out at around 7.40pm,” said a spokesperson from Bomba, adding that the owner managed to contain the blaze with a fire extinguisher before the firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from the Padungan fire station responded promptly, ensuring the fire did not spread further. They conducted overhaul works to ensure no further flare-ups, concluding the operation by 9.01pm.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it was reported that around 20 per cent of the first floor suffered damage due to the blaze.
