IPOH, June 12 – A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of his former girlfriend and the fatal stabbing of her current partner in Perak Tengah, in a case that has shocked local residents.
Perak police confirmed that the suspect was detained at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal in Kangar at about 3.45pm on Wednesday following intelligence gathered by investigators.
Perak Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said police successfully solved the case following the arrest of the suspect.
According to police, the incident began on June 9 when the suspect allegedly met his 25-year-old former girlfriend near a paddy field along Jalan Trans Perak. Investigators believe the woman was sexually assaulted during the encounter before returning home later that day.
The situation escalated the following morning when the woman’s current partner, a 29-year-old man, allegedly confronted the suspect over the incident.
Police investigations revealed that a vehicle chase took place along Jalan Trans Perak after the victim allegedly rammed the suspect’s vehicle. The confrontation eventually stopped when both men exited their vehicles.
Commissioner Mohd Alwi said the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen during the altercation. Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene using the victim’s vehicle.
The injured man was later discovered unconscious and rushed for medical assistance. However, he was pronounced dead at a clinic in Kampung Gajah due to the severity of his injuries.
Police immediately launched a manhunt to track down the suspect. Acting on intelligence leads, officers successfully located and arrested him in Kangar, Perlis.
Investigators also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the stabbing. The weapon was reportedly found discarded in a rubbish bin in Kangar during follow-up investigations.
Commissioner Mohd Alwi said the suspect is currently being remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. If convicted under Section 302, the accused faces severe penalties under Malaysian law.
Police are continuing their investigations, including gathering statements from witnesses and examining forensic evidence related to the case.
The tragic incident highlights the serious consequences of violent disputes and the importance of allowing legal authorities to handle criminal allegations through proper channels. Authorities have urged members of the public with relevant information to cooperate with investigators as the case proceeds.
