Young Motorcyclist Killed in Fatal Crash at Jalan Stutong, Kuching

KUCHING – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young motorcyclist in his 20s after his Honda RS-X collided head-on with a Proton Wira along Jalan Stutong here early this morning.

The accident, which took place around 4.10am, occurred when the motorcyclist was riding from the Stutong roundabout heading towards the Tabuan Tranquility traffic lights. According to Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, initial investigations revealed that the victim veered into the opposite lane before crashing into the oncoming Proton Wira.

“The victim, a local man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the Red Zone,” said Alexson in a statement today.

The driver of the Proton Wira escaped unhurt in the incident. Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Authorities are now appealing to the public for more information. “Anyone who witnessed the accident or has relevant details is urged to contact Traffic Investigating Officer Insp. Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068, the Kuching District Police Headquarters at 082-259900, or the nearest police station,” Alexson added.

He further reminded motorists to remain vigilant on the road, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is poor. “Every road user must take responsibility by adhering to traffic rules. Caution and patience can save lives,” he stressed.

The fatal crash has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of road safety awareness in Kuching. – Polis Daerah Kuching
