Father and Son Caught Stealing from Pharmacy, Arrested in Miri Raid

MIRI, 20 April 2025 – A father and son duo with a long criminal history were arrested in the early hours of Friday for allegedly stealing from a pharmacy and health & beauty shop in Miri.

The suspects, aged 48 and 19, were apprehended by officers from the Crime Prevention Branch of Miri Central Police Station around 2.15am during a raid at a homestay located along Jalan Duranta.

According to police sources, both men have a combined total of 18 previous criminal records, including offences involving drugs and property crimes across various districts in Sarawak. The operation was conducted following intelligence gathered by the police force, which led to the discovery of the suspects’ hideout.

During the raid, police found and confiscated several items believed to be connected to the recent theft incidents at a pharmacy and a health and beauty outlet. Early screening of both suspects also returned positive results for drug use, further linking them to criminal activities beyond the recent theft.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft within a building, a charge that could lead to imprisonment if convicted.

The suspects are currently being held at Miri Central Police Station Lockup for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This incident serves as a reminder to business owners in Miri and nearby areas to remain vigilant, install proper surveillance systems, and report any suspicious behaviour immediately. It also highlights the importance of continuous police efforts in reducing crime and maintaining public safety in the community. — Polis Daerah Miri
