Female Passenger Rescued After Vehicle Skids into Sabal Forest Ditch

SERIAN: A dramatic roadside rescue unfolded yesterday evening when an Isuzu D-Max four-wheel drive skidded off Jalan Serian–Sri Aman into a ditch within the Sabal Forest Reserve, leaving a female passenger trapped.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.05 pm as the vehicle, carrying a male driver and an adult female passenger, lost control and came to rest on the roadside. While the male driver sustained only minor injuries and was able to exit the vehicle on his own, the female passenger was trapped in the passenger seat, prompting immediate emergency response.

The Serian Fire and Rescue Team (BBP) was alerted to the emergency and arrived at the scene around 5.55 pm, deploying six team members, a Fire and Rescue Vehicle (FRT), and an Emergency Medical Services Unit (EMRS) vehicle to assist in the operation.

The rescue mission was supervised by Senior Fire Officer II Christopher Tungoh. Officers on site donned full personal protective equipment (PPE) and employed specialised rescue tools to extricate the trapped passenger safely.

“The operation was carried out with utmost care to ensure the safety of the victim and our team,” Christopher Tungoh stated. “Thanks to the swift response and coordination, the female passenger was successfully rescued without further complications.”

Eyewitnesses at the scene commended the professionalism of the fire and rescue personnel, highlighting the importance of rapid emergency intervention in preventing potential fatalities in road accidents, especially in forested and remote areas.

Road users are reminded to exercise caution, particularly along Jalan Serian–Sri Aman, where winding stretches and roadside ditches pose risks, especially during rainy conditions or slippery surfaces.

The rescued passenger was immediately transported for medical evaluation, while the cause of the skid is being investigated by local authorities.
