SARIKEI – The festive season in Sarikei has once again proven to be a powerful platform for strengthening racial harmony, as communities of diverse backgrounds came together to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri through visits and open houses.
Deputy Minister of Commodities and Plantations and Member of Parliament for Sarikei, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, highlighted that the celebration reflects the uniqueness of Sarawak’s multicultural society, where mutual respect and understanding form the foundation of unity.
He explained that the practice of visiting and organising open houses during festive occasions helps bridge differences and fosters closer ties among communities.
“The festival is not just an annual celebration but is the best platform to foster understanding, tolerance and a spirit of togetherness among the people,” he said.
Dato Sri Huang, who is also the Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), stressed that harmony achieved through festive traditions must be preserved and strengthened to ensure stability and progress for all levels of society.
He urged communities to uphold noble values and the spirit of unity that have long been the cornerstone of national harmony.
Representing him during the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri visits in Repok were Kapitan Ling Dien Yong and Penghulu Huang Tiong Kang, who joined the delegation in visiting several homes.
Among those visited were Kelana Kipli, Special Administrative Officer of the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA); Mohammad Fadillah, Repok PBB Youth Leader; Badjuri Bidin, Deputy Resident of Sarikei Division; and Morshien Affandi.
