KUCHING – The 2026 Chinese New Year Grand Gathering, themed around the Year of the Horse, was celebrated with joy and music by the Kuching and Samarahan Division Singing and Entertainment Association.
The event was attended by community members and dignitaries, marking both the festive season and the association’s 21st anniversary.
Representing the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian; the Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Dato Wee Hong Seng, delivered a speech that highlighted the warmth and unity of the occasion.
He described the atmosphere as vibrant, with participants bonding through song and laughter, embodying the spirit of the Lunar New Year.
Dato Wee extended special congratulations to the Singing and Entertainment Association, commending its perseverance and passion over more than two decades.
He noted that the association has become more than just a platform for music, serving as a vital force in spreading joy, strengthening friendships, and fostering community spirit.
“Music knows no boundaries, and songs transcend personalities,” he remarked, emphasising how melodies bring people together regardless of ethnicity or language. He added that this reflects the most precious values of diversity and harmony in Sarawak.
The Mayor also underscored Sarawak’s unique cultural inclusivity, where festivals such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, and Christmas are celebrated by all communities.
He reaffirmed the local government’s support for positive and healthy community groups like the Singing and Entertainment Association, encouraging them to continue spreading joy through culture and music.
In closing, Dato Wee wished the association continued prosperity and talent while extending blessings of good health, family happiness, and success to all attendees.
His message resonated with the festive spirit, reinforcing the values of unity and mutual respect that define Sarawak’s multicultural society.
