Fire Destroys 10 Doors at Ridap Sg Pasir Longhouse, RM1.7 Million Loss

MARUDI – A devastating fire broke out at Ridap Sg Pasir Longhouse, destroying six doors completely and damaging four others by 70 percent this afternoon. However, 13 other doors were successfully saved, thanks to the quick response from the authorities.

According to Marudi Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, PPgB Jessbent Jenus, the station received an emergency call at 1.59 PM. Within minutes, a team of nine firefighters was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 2.00 PM.

Several agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and the Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA), were involved in the rescue operation.

Massive Loss Estimated at RM1.7 Million

The total damage caused by the fire is estimated at RM1.7 million, with each affected unit suffering an estimated property loss of RM50,000. Among the destroyed items were furniture, household items, traditional artifacts, and electrical equipment.

Despite the heavy losses, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, while efforts are being made to assist the affected families.

Community Calls for Support

Local residents and community leaders are urging for urgent assistance to help the affected families rebuild their homes. The tragedy highlights the importance of fire safety awareness in longhouses, where fires can spread rapidly due to the close proximity of units.

Authorities advise residents to check their electrical wiring and fire safety measures regularly to prevent such incidents in the future.
