The first day of the operation began at 6.30am, involving multiple agencies, including the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Tanjung Manis District, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), RELA, the Sarawak River Board, and several local fishing boats.

More than 50 personnel and dozens of boats were mobilised to search the surrounding waters and coastline. Despite the strong response, heavy rain in the morning hampered visibility and slowed progress.

Authorities confirmed that the search area was expanded to cover both nearshore and offshore zones, with teams coordinating closely to maximise coverage. Local fishermen also joined the effort, lending their boats and knowledge of the area to assist the operation.

Community members have expressed concern over the incident, noting that Belawai Beach is a popular fishing spot but can be dangerous during periods of rough weather. Safety reminders have been issued, urging residents and visitors to exercise caution when engaging in activities near the sea.
