KUCHING: Two Temporary Transfer Centres (PPS) have been activated to provide shelter and assistance to residents affected by flooding at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru. The centres were opened on Tuesday after parts of the area became flooded with heavy rains.
The PPS facilities are at the Multipurpose Hall Sinar Budi Baru and Stapok Community Hall. Both centres are now available for flood victims in these times of dislocation.
The decision to open the centres was made in order to offer immediate relief and protection for families in danger as waters rise, according to authorities.
Security and rescue agencies are keeping a close eye in order to carry out the operation smoothly and react promptly to any subsequent emergencies.
Residents have been appealed to stay alert and follow any instructions given by authorities, especially those living near the bent or tilted trees caused by root failure, said the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Kuching.
As it continued to rain heavily, Sarawak’s authorities stressed the need to take precautionary measures to mitigate flood related risks.
Residents are encouraged to have supplies on hand, refrain from nonessential travel during severe weather events, and report emergencies quickly.
The APM Kuching can be reached at 082-252940 or 082-252941, and for emergency cases, they should call the national line at 999.
Sarawak is prone to flooding in low-lying areas during the rainy season. The activation of PPS centers forms part of the state’s disaster management strategy to protect communities and provide temporary relief until conditions improve.
These centres are a testament to how local authorities should proactively consider public safety. PPS facilities provide essential shelter and synchronised assistance, acting as a lifeline for impacted families in times of crisis.
