SERDANG – The MADANI Student Transport Carnival and FLYSiswa 2026 was held today at the Great Hall, Cultural and Arts Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), officiated by the Minister of Transport. The event marked the government’s continued commitment to strengthening student welfare in public higher education institutions.
The carnival served as a platform to provide direct information and announcements about the FLYSiswa initiative, a subsidy programme designed to ease the financial burden of students travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Under FLYSiswa 2026, eligible students will receive a digital voucher worth RM400 in shell credit to purchase economy class flight tickets.
Participating airlines include Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, AirAsia, Batik Air, and Air Borneo, with vouchers applicable for both one-way and round-trip journeys.
The programme covers students from Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA), Polytechnics, Community Colleges, Matriculation Colleges, and Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) under the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM).
In his opening address, the Minister of Transport reaffirmed the government’s dedication to student welfare.
“The FLYSiswa initiative reflects the MADANI Government’s concern in helping students, especially those who have to travel long distances to pursue their education. This programme not only eases the financial burden but also ensures fairer and more affordable access to air travel for students,” he said.
He added that the carnival was crucial in ensuring students receive accurate information directly from relevant agencies.
“The organisation of the FLYSiswa Carnival is important as a platform to reach out to students, provide clear explanations about the qualifications and implementation phases of FLYSiswa 2026, and ensure that no group is left out from enjoying the benefits provided,” he explained.
Throughout the day, students engaged in various activities including information counters, interactive sessions, and direct consultations with officials to better understand the implementation of FLYSiswa 2026, which will be rolled out in phases.
Since its introduction in 2023, FLYSiswa has benefited tens of thousands of students, with claims increasing annually.
The rising participation demonstrates the effectiveness of the initiative in supporting student welfare and ensuring more inclusive access to air travel.
The carnival highlighted the government’s broader vision under the MADANI framework, which prioritises inclusivity, fairness, and long-term support for students across Malaysia.
