SERIAN – The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has successfully carried out a large-scale transfer of foreign detainees back to their country of origin under the Foreign Detainee Transfer Program, in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Kuching.
The operation, which took place today at the Semuja Immigration Depot, involved a total of 201 Indonesian nationals who had completed their sentences in Malaysia. The group consisted of 145 men, 55 women, and one boy, all of whom were escorted under strict security measures to ensure a smooth and safe repatriation process.
JIM Sarawak, in a statement, emphasised that this program is part of its ongoing commitment to managing foreign detainees in an orderly and lawful manner. The department also stressed the importance of strong bilateral cooperation with foreign embassies and consulates, particularly in addressing migration and repatriation matters.
“Through this program, JIM Sarawak demonstrates the government’s dedication to handling migration issues with prudence, responsibility, and respect for legal procedures,” the statement read.
The Foreign Detainee Transfer Program is seen as a practical solution that not only reduces overcrowding in immigration depots but also ensures that foreign nationals are returned to their home countries in accordance with international standards.
The close cooperation between Malaysian authorities and the Indonesian consulate reflects a shared commitment to effective migration management while maintaining strong diplomatic ties between both countries.
JIM further assured that similar efforts will continue in the future to ensure that foreign detainees are managed in a way that upholds Malaysia’s laws and preserves humanitarian values. – JIM Sarawak
