SIBU – The Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sibu Branch and the Sibu District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), conducted Integrated Road Block Operation No. 6 of 2026 last Wednesday night.
The operation was aimed at strengthening road safety and curbing drug abuse among drivers. A total of 31 officers and personnel from the three agencies were involved in the enforcement exercise.
During the operation, 23 individuals were detained for initial urine screening tests. Of these, four male drivers aged between 19 and 40 were found positive for drugs.
The individuals were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (APPDB 1983).
The act emphasises not only enforcement but also treatment and rehabilitation programmes to help offenders reintegrate into society.
AADK District Head, Azimah Marsid, was present to oversee the operation. She stressed that the agency’s focus is not only on detection and detention but also on ensuring that those involved are given access to rehabilitation programmes.
This approach, she said, is crucial for the well-being of the community and for reducing the long-term impact of drug abuse.
The operation also highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between enforcement agencies. By working together, AADK, JPJ, and BSPT aim to strengthen public safety and combat drug and substance abuse comprehensively.
JPJ Branch Head Jelapin Entalai and BSPT Inspector Muhammad Edham Ibrahim were also present during the operation, underscoring the joint commitment of the agencies involved.
AADK reaffirmed its commitment to intensify detection operations in Sibu and Kapit divisions, ensuring that individuals involved in drug abuse are identified and dealt with appropriately.
The agency reminded the public to avoid drugs and not to make prohibited substances part of their lifestyle.
The operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by enforcement agencies to safeguard road users and communities from the dangers of drug abuse.
By combining enforcement with rehabilitation, authorities aim to create a safer and healthier environment for all.
