Gang Fight Over Girl at Bangsar Nasi Kandar Restaurant Causes RM5,000 in Damages

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27: A peaceful early morning at a popular nasi kandar restaurant in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar, turned chaotic when a fight broke out between two groups of men, causing damage worth over RM5,000 and unpaid food bills of around RM1,000.

According to Brickfields district police chief Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, the incident happened at about 5.40am on Friday (April 25). It is believed that eight to 10 men were involved in the brawl.

“As a result of the fight, a glass panel was shattered, dining tables were badly dented, and even a decorative Quran display hanging on the wall was destroyed,” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 27).

The sudden violence caused panic among the customers. Many fled the restaurant in fear, leaving behind their meals and bills. The unpaid bills alone amounted to approximately RM1,000.

Initial investigations revealed that the fight started when a woman from one of the groups was harassed by members of the other group. What began as a verbal exchange quickly turned violent.

Police have already recorded statements from three witnesses and have identified several suspects. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 for causing mischief and property damage.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward to assist with the investigation.

The restaurant owners are said to be counting their losses, with damages to their property and the cost of unpaid meals adding up at a difficult time for small business owners trying to recover after the pandemic years.
