PM Anwar Graces Gawai Dayak 2025 Dinner in Kuching with Warm Welcome

KUCHING, 22 June 2025 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a grand Sarawakian welcome upon his arrival in Kuching on Sunday evening to attend the much-anticipated Sarawak-Level Gawai Dayak Dinner 2025, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Touching down at approximately 4.28 pm via a special flight, the Prime Minister was greeted by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, alongside the state’s top leadership.

Joining the Premier in the welcoming entourage were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian. Their presence reflected the significance of the event, which is the highlight of the Gawai celebration at the state level.

Several key Sarawak ministers and representatives were also present, including:

  • Datuk Gerawat Gala, Chairman of the 2025 Sarawak Gawai Dayak Organizing Committee and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department,
  • Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability,
  • Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (Tourism),
  • Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing,
  • Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, ADUN Murum,
  • Anyi Ngau, Member of Parliament for Baram.

The dinner serves not only as a cultural festivity but also a symbol of unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Sarawak. The event is expected to be graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, reaffirming the occasion’s importance.

The Prime Minister’s attendance marks a strong federal gesture of respect towards East Malaysian cultures, highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Sarawak under the concept of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family). — UKAS
