Sarawak Premier Presents Gawai Dayak Aid to 1,900 Frontliners

KUCHING, 22 May 2025 – A meaningful ceremony took place at Cantapan Hall, Sarawak State Assembly Building today, marking the first-ever symbolic submission of Gawai Dayak contributions to uniformed enforcement personnel in Sarawak.

Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, together with his wife, YABhg Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajjah Jumaani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, personally handed over contributions to 11 agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and other enforcement bodies. In total, 1,900 frontliners received the festive aid.

In his speech, the Premier expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Welfare and Sarawak’s Department of Women and Family for successfully organising this event for the first time.

“This program is more than just festive aid – it symbolises the Sarawak government’s appreciation towards the sacrifice of our security and enforcement teams, especially those on duty during Gawai,” he said.

He added that this initiative aligns with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which highlights inclusivity as one of its key pillars. Recognising those who ensure safety and order during public holidays is part of the government’s commitment to community wellbeing.

Earlier, Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare, YB Dato Sri Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah, delivered the welcoming remarks and praised the collaboration that made this historic program a success.

Also in attendance were Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Prof Sim Hui Kian, Sarawak State Secretary YB Datuk Amer Abu Bakar Marzuki, several deputy ministers, department heads, and other distinguished guests.
