Gedong Festival Celebrates Unity and Progress with Strong Community Spirit

GEDONG — The 2025 Gedong Festival concluded on a high note with a vibrant closing ceremony at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali Gedong, attracting more than 2,500 visitors on Saturday. The event, held biennially, stood as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in promoting social unity, economic development, and local culture.

Organised by the Gedong Festival Main Committee, the festival showcased the district’s cultural richness and future potential, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the local people. Throughout the week, the event recorded over 10,000 visitors, many of whom travelled from outside the district to witness key highlights including traditional boat races, cultural performances, and a fireworks display.

Speaking on behalf of Gedong Assemblyman Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, his Special Representative extended appreciation to the Sarawak Government, especially the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, for the continuous support that has made the festival a growing success.

“A festival of this scale wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and teamwork of the organising committee and local community. Their efforts in planning and executing various programmes have significantly benefited Gedong’s villages and the district at large,” he said.

Besides offering cultural entertainment, the festival also created numerous business opportunities for local entrepreneurs through sales booths and exhibitions, adding a positive economic impact on the region.

The festivities were further elevated by performances from renowned guest artists and talented local acts, contributing to a joyous and inclusive atmosphere throughout the event.

As Gedong continues to grow, festivals like this serve as vital platforms to enhance community engagement, foster regional pride, and highlight Sarawak’s unique cultural heritage.
