Sarawak TYT, Premier Join Over 5,000 Muslims for Aidiladha Prayers
KUCHING, June 17 – In a remarkable display of unity and faith, Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined over 5,000 Muslims to perform Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek today. This event marked the significant celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha, a major religious observance for Muslims worldwide.
The prayers were led by the esteemed Grand Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi. Alongside other state leaders, the governor and premier also participated in a mass takbir raya event, filling the mosque with the harmonious recitation of praises.
Following the prayers and sermon, the distinguished guests posed for a group photo in the front hall of Masjid Jamek, capturing a moment of solidarity. The leaders then proceeded to Dewan Hikmah, where they attended the Sarawak Islamic Council’s Aidiladha Thanksgiving Ceremony.
During this ceremony, both Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari observed the ‘ibadah korban’ (Islamic ritual sacrifice) and took part in the symbolic cutting of sacrificial meat. This ritual, which involves the sacrifice of animals, is a core part of Aidiladha, symbolizing the act of giving and sharing.
In an impressive act of charity and community support, a total of 1,240 cows were sacrificed this year. The meat from these sacrifices will be distributed to asnaf groups (those eligible to receive zakat, or almsgiving) throughout Sarawak, ensuring that the benefits of this significant celebration reach those in need.
The participation of the state’s top leaders in the Aidiladha prayers and subsequent ceremonies highlights the importance of religious observances in fostering community spirit and unity among the people of Sarawak.
