KUCHING – N13 Batu Kitang representative and SUPP leader YB Lo Khere Chiang has criticised DAP Sarawak’s track record, asserting that promises made to Sarawakans were left unfulfilled while GPS consistently delivers results for the state.
In a recent statement to Dayak Daily, YB Lo addressed remarks by DAP Sarawak leader YB Chong Chieng Jen, who called for greater opposition representation in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly under the banner of “checks and balances” and protection of people’s rights. While accountability is important, YB Lo questioned whether DAP Sarawak has ever consistently defended Sarawak’s core rights.
“YB Chong once pledged publicly to deliver 50% of all taxes collected in Sarawak and 20% of oil royalties to the state. Yet, none of these promises materialised,” he said. He further highlighted the 2019 issue of the 5% State Sales Tax (SST) on petroleum products, when DAP leaders reportedly opposed measures that could have strengthened Sarawak’s revenue collection.
YB Lo also challenged YB Chong on transparency. “During over twenty years as a Member of Parliament, did he ever call for Petronas to disclose its full financial accounts for parliamentary scrutiny? If defending Sarawak is a priority, why was this never questioned?”
Contrasting GPS with DAP, YB Lo praised the state government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari. He pointed out key achievements such as enforcement of the 5% petroleum sales tax, PETROS’ recognition as the sole gas aggregator, and the gradual return of operational control in the gas sector to Sarawak.
YB Lo emphasised that GPS acts on a Sarawak-first mandate, while DAP aligns with national leadership in Peninsular Malaysia, often overlooking local priorities. He stressed that Sarawak’s unity, peace, and financial resilience remain strong despite political divisions.
“Political debate is welcome, but external-driven division is not. Sarawak advances today with stability, guided by its own priorities,” he said, urging Sarawakians to focus on shared progress.
