Heavy Rain Causes Floods in Kapit, Five Schools Affected

KAPIT: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused severe flooding in several areas of Kapit, affecting multiple villages and infrastructure, including five primary schools.

Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, confirmed that the flooded schools include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Yong, SK Bena Sut, SK Nanga Kebiaw, SK Nanga Antaroh, and SK Nanga Bena.

“However, the floodwaters at three schools – SK Nanga Kebiaw, SK Nanga Antaroh, and SK Nanga Bena – have started to recede,” he shared in a Facebook post today.

Several Areas Badly Hit by Floods

Besides schools, several areas in Kapit have also been affected. Among the worst-hit locations are Kampung Muhibah on Jalan Bleteh, Kampung Baru on Jalan Abang Sulaihi, Lorong 7 Jalan Airport, and Ng Seranau.

In addition to property damage, the flooding has led to road closures and electricity cuts in some locations as a safety measure. The affected areas include Sg. Sibau (Rh. John Ramba), Rh. Riti, Ng. Tulie, Pulau Pisang, and Ng. Baleh.

Urgent Action Taken to Assist Residents

Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi assured that relevant authorities have been mobilized to provide assistance to those affected.

“I have instructed all related agencies to take immediate action to help the residents impacted by the floods,” he said. As the Member of Parliament for Kapit, he also urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to instructions from authorities to ensure their safety.

Community Urged to Stay Safe

Nanta expressed deep concern over the flooding and sympathized with the affected communities. He reminded everyone to stay alert, avoid risky areas, and follow official updates to prevent any unwanted incidents.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates will be provided as conditions develop.
